Sound so good that you forget you’re wearing headphones

One advantage of choosing a digital piano is that you can play with headphones on to keep your surroundings quiet. However, many people may find that their ears become fatigued if they play with headphones on for too long. One of the main reasons for this is that sound played directly into the ears is completely different from the natural sound of an actual piano. Binaural sampling solves this problem. This is a method of sampling in which special microphones are used in the same positions as the pianist’s ears to capture piano sounds the way that they sound in reality. Yamaha chose this method to create the ambience and full, natural resonance of acoustic pianos in Clavinova pianos. This makes pianists feel as though they are sitting at a grand piano even when they play with headphones on.

A variety of supportive functions and options for piano practice

CLP Series pianos feature 50 of the most famous classical pieces as well as 303 exercises by Hanon, Beyer, Czerny, and Burgmüller. Sheet music is also available for download and viewing on the Smart Pianist app. Try practicing with one hand at a time, or simply listen and enjoy. The CLP-800 Series is also compatible with the FC35 optional three-pedal unit, which functions as an auxiliary pedal for small children to practice pedaling. Simply place the FC35 on a suitable stand* or otherwise adjust it so that it sits in a position appropriate for your child’s height.

Grand Acoustic Imaging and other acoustic technology

A grand piano amplifies sound through its large soundboard and case, resonating throughout the surrounding space. In contrast, digital pianos rely on speakers, leading to different sound perceptions depending on the listener’s position, a difference more pronounced in digital pianos than grand pianos. To address this, Yamaha has utilized its extensive acoustic piano manufacturing experience and advanced acoustic design technology to enhance the CLP-800 Series. By optimizing speaker placement, orientation, and volume balance across low, mid, and high frequencies, and incorporating diffusers, waveguides, and Bidirectional Horns, the design mimics the natural sound reverberation of a grand piano. Enjoy immersive sound on the CLP-845 through a revolutionary 2-way speaker system with diffuser technology.

GrandTouch-S keyboard

Yamaha’s GrandTouch-S keyboard is designed to replicate the authentic feel of a grand piano. By fine-tuning the weight, materials, and internal mechanisms, Yamaha ensures that each keystroke—from powerful passages to delicate notes—feels incredibly realistic. The GrandTouch-S’ keyboard’s escapement provides a satisfying click when keys are pressed, a sensation unique to grand pianos. The CLP-845’s keybed features a synthetic ebony and ivory keytops for amazing texture and playability.

GrandTouch™ pedals

Yamaha designed Clavinova GrandTouch pedals to resemble grand piano pedals and provide the same resistance. An upgrade from the CLP-700 Series, the pivots, pivot-to-tip lengths, angles, and other measurements match grand piano specifications, ensuring similar travel paths and force requirements. For precise control in the half-pedal range, GrandTouch pedals use friction to allow fine adjustments and reduce the force needed to hold the pedals in place. Yamaha’s design choices in shapes, materials, and positioning enhance this finesse, making the pedals feel like grand piano pedals and improving control for subtle nuances. These advancements bring the digital piano experience closer to that of a grand piano.

High-quality recordings of your own playing with ease

The recording function featured in the CLP-800 Series allows you to record your performances with a single touch, which is useful when you want to review your playing objectively. The CLP-845 features a 16-track song recorder that allows you to layer up to 16 different piano tracks on your recording, so different hands can be recorded separately or overdub parts with different voices. Recordings are made in MIDI format and can also be saved on a USB flash drive. Audio recording (.WAV format) is also possible when you connect a USB flash drive into the USB [TO DEVICE] terminal. Using Yamaha’s Smart Pianist app, you can even record your performance in either Audio or MIDI format directly to your smart device.
