The SPD‑SX‑SE Special Edition is an enhanced version of Roland’s acclaimed performance sampling pad, offering superior inputs, a larger display, and a full-metal chassis for extra durability. It supports high-quality sample playback, phrase looping, and real-time performance control.

The unit includes nine velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads, each capable of dynamic triggering and layering. You can record or import your own sounds directly from USB or SD media and assign them to pads. Each sound supports editing parameters like tuning, length, effects, and dynamic layers.

A built-in phrase sequencer allows loop recording with overdubbing, quantize options, and phrase chaining for live performances. There are also sound kits, customizable pad maps, and performance recall modes for fast access.

Advanced features include three built-in multi-effect processors, per-pad reverb/echo, EQ, and a master limiter. The Bonus FX panel offers beat slicing, scratch effects, filter sweeps, and tempo sync. The display is large and intuitive, and pad lighting provides visual feedback during gigs.

Connectivity includes stereo main outputs, headphone jack, stereo mix-in, MIDI input/output, and external trigger input for drum triggers or foot pedals. A built-in SD recorder allows complete stereo phrase recording to WAV files.
